Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia proposed the plan while presenting the Budget in the Delhi Assembly, as per reports. He reportedly said the nation’s capital has the resources to become its tourism capital.

“But due to lack of branding and information, most tourists take Delhi as a transit point, because of which tourists coming to Delhi spend (only) a day on an average here. Whereas, in cities like London, Singapore and Tokyo, a tourist spends three days on an average,” Sisodia was quoted by Outlook India as saying.

As per reports, he added if tourists spend a minimum of two days in Delhi, an extra day will be able to create and support new jobs for the industry.

The government also has plans to launch a campaign titled “Campaign for Communal Harmony” in light of the recent violence that took place in the city, reports said.

The Deputy Chief Minister also said the government aims to start a new festival, “Purvanchal Utsav” along the lines of “Delhi Ki Diwali” initiative from next year, as per reports.

Last year, the Delhi Ki Diwali initiative helped residents celebrate Diwali without bursting firecrackers; instead a laser show and other cultural activities were organised to promote consciousness about the environment, reports said.
