India: Kerala Tourism joins TikTok’s global travel campaign

Thiruvananthapuram (TAN): Kerala Tourism has become part of TikTok’s global in-app travel campaign in its newest move to promote the state as a tourist destination. TikTok is a mobile application that acts as a platform for creating and sharing short videos.

Kerala reportedly became the first state in the country to embrace #TikTokTravel by setting up its official account on TikTok. Called #YehMeraIndia, the local in-app campaign upholds India as a leading travel destination and encourages users to share their travel moments in the country.

P. Bala Kiran, Director of Kerala Tourism, said: “We are thrilled to be one of the first state tourism boards to come onto TikTok and be part of #TikTokTravel and #YehMeraIndia. We truly believe that TikTok as a platform will effectively help us further promote Kerala as an attractive tourist destination in India.”

The popularity of TikTok’s travel segment has been soaring lately, with over 4,00,000 videos under the travel hashtag earning over 1.7 billion views. Videos cover several topics such as creators’ interactions with nature and various cultures.

Some of the most viewed travel hashtags of Kerala on TikTok include #Palakkad with 35.5 million views, #Wayanad with 32.9 million views, #Munnar with 32.8 million views, #Kovalam with 2.9 million views and #Thekaddy with 1.3 million views.

Bala Kiran added: “In fact, it is very encouraging to see that a number of Kerala’s travel hashtags already have millions of views on TikTok. There couldn’t have been a better time for us to kick-start our TikTok journey. TikTok’s global reach allows us to showcase Kerala’s myriad offerings to the world and we hope that people would like to visit the state themselves to experience all the wonderful destinations after discovering and sharing these TikTok videos.”

Among other top viewed destinations in India, some are #TajMahal with 79.2 million views, #GoldenTemple with 67.6 million views, #Himalaya with 22.6 million views, #redfort with 13.6 million views, and #GateWayofIndia with 9 million views.

“We are thrilled to roll out our TikTok Travel campaign in India which aims to bring to life the beautiful landscape, colourful culture and unforgettable experiences and moments that the country has to offer to travellers. We hope it will encourage more and more people to pack their bags and explore this wonderful country, not only to know it better but also to broaden their own mental horizons,” Director of Sales and Partnerships, TikTok (India), Sachin Sharma said.
