Delhi (TAN): Jaipur, the capital of the Indian state of Rajasthan, has entered the list of World Heritage Sites of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
The decision was taken at the ongoing 43rd session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee in Azerbaijan’s capital Baku. The session, which started on June 30, will evaluate 35 nominations for inscription on the World Heritage Sites list until July 10.

The United Nations body posted the news on Twitter. It said: “Just inscribed as @UNESCO #WorldHeritage Site: Jaipur City in Rajasthan, #India. Bravo.”
Apart from Jaipur, the committee has inscribed 13 other sites on the list until now. Sites in Bahrain, Australia, China, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Myanmar, Korea, Canada, Germany, Czechia, and Poland have made it to the list.
India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he was glad the Pink City has got the recognition.
He tweeted: “Jaipur is a city associated with culture and valour. Elegant and energetic, Jaipur’s hospitality draws people from all over.”
Rajasthan Chief Minister wrote on Twitter: “It is a matter of great pride that our Pink City Jaipur has been declared as a world heritage site by UNESCO. It will add to the glory of capital city of Rajasthan.”
He also said the new tag will give tourism and local economy a push.

“Jaipur listed on world map as world heritage site is not only a matter of prestige but it will give boost to tourism. Local economy will benefit along with improving of infrastructure,” he tweeted.
The fortified city located in a hilly territory, was established by Sawai Jai Singh II in 1727.
