Jakarta (TAN): Mount Tangkuban Parahu, an active volcano in Bandung, West Java, erupted on Friday evening.
According to reports, local authorities have issued orders to tourists not to approach the volcano’s crater, a popular tourist spot.

Videos on social media show terrifying pictures of people trying to run to safety as thick grey volcanic smoke and ash emerge from the volcano’s crater.
Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation chief Kasbani said the grey thick volcanic ash spread to the south and north east.
“The eruption was recorded on the seismogram to have a maximum amplitude of 38mm with a duration of about five minutes and 30 seconds,” he said in a statement, adding that the volcano was now classed as Level I status, or normal.

People in the Tangkuban Parahu area have been asked to be vigilant.
