Tokyo (TAN): United Kingdom-based hospitality chain InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has unveiled a property in Japan’s Oita Prefecture, making it the region’s first international luxury resort.
ANA Intercontinental Beppu Resort & Spa, located in the southwestern part of the country, will serve its guests traditional hot spring culture. IHG ANA Hotels Group Japan is a joint venture between IHG and Japanese airline All Nippon Airways (ANA).

“On behalf of IHG and IHG/ANA Japan, we are extremely proud to open the first international luxury hot spring resort and spa in Beppu. InterContinental has been pioneers in luxury travel for over 70 years, delivering the allure of the InterContinental Life in all corners of the world,” Head of Japan, IHG, and IHG ANA Hotels Group Japan, Hans Heijligers, said.
“We are delighted to continue bringing the brand’s iconic hospitality, combining international know-how and local wisdom to new destinations as IHG continues to grow its luxury presence across the globe and in Japan,” he added.
Situated near the world’s second largest volume of hot spring water, the resort offers two outdoor onsens or Japanese hot springs, private onsen rooms with amenities such as day beds and bathrooms. It also features an infinity pool that overlooks Beppu’s hot springs.
ANA InterContinental Beppu Resort & Spa consists of 89 rooms, including 10 suites, that are designed using natural materials. All suites and Club InterContinental rooms are fitted with open-air baths on the terrace.
The resort’s five restaurants and bars, inspired by the five elements, rustles up food made with local ingredients. While Atelier serves French and international cuisine, the all-day dining restaurant Elements cooks up Japanese and Western dishes. Guests can sample Japanese shochu and cocktails made with local citrus fruits at The Bar, or drink afternoon tea at the poolside bar Aqua.
The spa, in collaboration with luxury Thai spa brand HARNN, offers therapies using natural materials in its five treatment rooms and two double massage rooms.

Prices for guestrooms at the resort start from JPY60,000 per night.
