The Japanese government has banned travels to 159 countries and regions in the wake of the pandemic.

The Xinhua report said those travelling would have to test negative for Covid-19 before entering Japan and also upon arrival, while their sponsors, such as companies or organisations that support them, would be expected to ensure their self-isolation for 14 days, during which time they would not be allowed to use any public transport.

To start with, the Tokyo authorities would allow 1,000 foreign arrivals to the country every day. The limit will be increased gradually.
