Lufthansa expands its Express Rail routes in Germany

  • Lufthansa is expanding its Express Rail routes from Cologne, Düsseldorf, Stuttgart, Aachen and Ulm in partnership with German railway company Deutsche Bahn.
  • The routes are expected to offer more connections for arrivals and departures and comfortable transfer to flights to passengers at Frankfurt Airport.
  • Lufthansa Express trains from Cologne’s central station to Frankfurt Airport every week will increase from the existing 77 to 119 in mid-December, and connections offered on the route to and from Dusseldorf will be doubled to 105 trains.

  • The Lufthansa Group airlines carried around 14 million passengers in September 2019, an increase of 2.3% compared to the same period last year.

Lufthansa, together with its partner Deutsche Bahn (DB), is significantly expanding its Express Rail routes from Cologne, Düsseldorf, Stuttgart, Aachen and Ulm. The additional ICE offers will provide Lufthansa passengers with connections for arrivals and departures at Frankfurt Airport that are even better coordinated and allow a comfortable transfer to flights.

When the DB timetable changes in mid-December, 119 Lufthansa Express trains to Frankfurt Airport will depart from Cologne’s central station every week instead of the current 77, while the connections offered on the route to and from Dusseldorf will be doubled to 105 ICE trains. Customers from Stuttgart will be able to use 77 connections a week going forward, and there will be 42 and 49 Express Rail trains to and from Aachen and Ulm respectively every week. All routes are already available for booking. 

Lufthansa Express Rail offers feeder trains to Frankfurt Airport with integrated booking. If the train or flight is unexpectedly delayed, Lufthansa will rebook the passengers free of charge. Miles & More miles are credited and LH Business Class passengers travel in the First Class of Deutsche Bahn and have access to the DB lounges.

Lufthansa currently offers Express Rail service for 14 German cities. In addition to those mentioned above, these are Dortmund, Göttingen, Kassel, Erfurt, Würzburg, Nuremberg, Freiburg, Karlsruhe and Mannheim. Additional routes are planned.
