Marriott International signs three-hotel deal, looks to expand in Thailand

Bangkok (TAN): United States-based hospitality major Marriott International has signed a three-hotel deal with Thai integrated lifestyle real-estate group Asset World Corporation (AWC) to launch three of its brands in the country. The new properties are part of the company’s expansion plans in Thailand, Marriott said.

The three hotels, together consisting of about 1,550 rooms, could open between late 2020 and 2024. While a Courtyard by Marriott is expected to open in late 2020 in Phuket, AWC could open a 900-room Marriott Marquis and JW Marriott with 398 rooms, both in Pattaya.

Chief Executive Officer and President of Asset World Corp Public Company Limited, Wallapa Traisorat said: “We expect the hotels to benefit from Marriott International’s powerful global distribution platform, innovative sales and marketing programming and industry leading experience. In addition, the scale of its loyalty program – Marriott Bonvoy – is pivotal to attracting travelers. Our collaboration with Marriott International will help us set a new hospitality benchmark in Pattaya and Phuket – two highly dynamic cities now emerging as ideal destinations for both leisure and MICE tourism, with endless opportunities from a constant inflow of business and leisure travelers.”

Courtyard by Marriott will open in the centre of Phuket after refurbishing Metropole Phuket Hotel. It will feature 248 guestrooms, two food and beverage outlets, and event spaces.

JW Marriott The Pattaya Beach Resort and Spa, and Pattaya Marriott Marquis Hotel, both located in Central Pattaya, will be built in AWC’s Mega Scale Mixed-Use Destination. With several dining venues and event spaces for guests, the former will primarily be a luxury destination, while the latter will cater to guests with Marriott Hotels’ ‘Let Your Mind Travel’ brand positioning in mind.

The construction Mixed-Use Destination project is expected to be complete in the fourth quarter of 2023 and could open in the second quarter of 2024. It will feature retail spaces and luxury accommodations.
