Bangkok (TAN): Thailand tourism minister Weerasak Kowsurat has said the country would make new laws that would ensure better safety in adventure tourism.

This come weeks after a Canadian tourist plunged to his death when a zipline cable snapped at Chiang Mai in Northern Thailand.

“It’s time we have a law to enforce better safety,” The Bangkok Post quoted the minister as saying. “We’ve found that legal oversight (for these attractions) is lacking compared to other countries.”

In the Chiang Mai accident, the victim, who was with a group of friends and his girlfriend, fell more than a hundred metres into a creek. The cable apparently gave away soon after he was released.

The incident took place at an attraction called Flight of the Gibbon that is five kilometres long 33 different platforms.
