Miami (TAN): American cruise line Royal Caribbean International’s ‘Oasis of the Seas’ ship will get a makeover worth USD 165 million to celebrate its ten-year anniversary.
Oasis of the Seas belongs to the cruise line’s Oasis Class, claimed to be the world’s largest cruise ships. It is the first of the Oasis Class ships to receive an amplification.

The modernisation, that will happen over 63 days, will comprise a Caribbean-inspired pool deck with an aquapark for children and a bar, the cruise line’s first barbecue restaurant called the Portside BBQ, a music hall, waterslides including the tallest slide at sea, and a karaoke venue.
Following the amplification, the upgraded ship will embark on seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries from Royal Caribbean’s Terminal A here on November 24, 2019.
Royal Caribbean’s President and Chief Executive Director Michael Bayley said the ‘world’s largest and most groundbreaking’ cruise ship Oasis of the Seas has been leading the industry and attracting guests for a decade.
“Now with the opportunity to disrupt the industry once again, we’ve gone all-in with our biggest and boldest amplification yet. Oasis will turn heads when she arrives in Miami this November and the Northeast in May 2020,” he added.
In May 2020, the ship will sail to New York City before starting on a seven-night journey to The Bahamas with stops at the cruise line’s private island destination Perfect Day at CocoCay, from Cape Liberty in Bayonne, New Jersey.

The ship will undergo several changes during modernisation. While the Pool and Sports Zone will be fitted with more options for relaxation and adventure, the new Caribbean-style pool deck will sport a bar The Lime & Coconut. Apart from Portside BBQ, the ship will also feature a Mexican joint, El Loco Fresh, Playmakers Sports Bar & Arcade and Sugar Beach for visitors with a sweet tooth.
Families will be able to engage in quality time onboard, with ‘interactive, personalised and unexpected experiences’ for under-18 guests, a nursery for toddlers, an area for teens with a hidden entrance, gaming lounge, movies, music, and a new outdoor deck.
