Miami (TAN): Germany-based AIDA Cruises’ AIDAnova, the world’s first cruise to run on low-emission liquefied natural gas (LNG), arrived in the Spanish city of Barcelona for the first time during its seven-day voyage in the Mediterranean.

The newest cruise ship from Carnival Corporation-owned AIDA Cruises, that works with the aid of four dual-fuel engines and three gas tanks, was ‘fueled for the first time in the Mediterranean with LNG, the world’s cleanest burning fossil fuel’. Thereafter, the vessel will be ‘regularly supplied with LNG at the Spanish metropolis’ as part of a partnership between Carnival Corporation and Shell Western LNG B.V.

Barcelona, together with Palma de Mallorca, happened to be AIDAnova’s ‘second start-and-end destination’ during the Mediterranean tour.

Apart from 2,626 rooms across 21 categories, and a penthouse suite with two decks, AIDAnova features gastronomic treats for its guests that include 17 restaurants and 23 bars. One of its culinary offerings, the Time Machine Restaurant, is a street food mile with food and a floating television studio.

Guests can also pick from a 360-degree Theatrium, the Four Elements adventure deck that comes with water slides and a climbing garden under the dome of a folding glass roof, and the Beach Club, for entertainment and relaxation. The ship also offers a wellness area, and an outdoor fitness studio.
