(TAN): The Saudi Tourism Authority (STA) has launched a new campaign, “Saudi Summer”, to boost domestic tourism and inspire local travellers to explore the cities along the Red Sea coast, reports said.
Saudi Arabia’s tourism body reportedly carried out a research before rolling out the campaign which showed although over half of the respondents were apprehensive about travelling by plane, 85% of those interviewed were planning to holiday for around ten days this year. Of all the individuals researched, 78% were interested in exploring the Western Asian nation, a report said.

Saudi Arabia’s Tourism Minister and Chairperson of STA Ahmed Al Khateeb reportedly said not only does the campaign present an opportunity for tourists to learn more about the country, but it also helps the ministry’s effort to strengthen the sector that was greatly impacted by COVID-19.
“Saudi Summer comes as a wonderful opportunity to discover multiple tourist destinations in KSA, alongside its historical, natural and cultural treasures. The campaign also contributes to enhancing efforts by the Ministry of Tourism to revive the tourism sector, which was most affected by the repercussions of the Covid-19 crisis,” he was quoted by PR Newswire as saying.

The campaign will reportedly promote ten locations across the kingdom including Jeddah and King Abdullah Economic City, Abha, Tabuk, Al Khobar, Dammam, Al Ahsa, Al Baha, Al Taif, Yanbu, Umluj and Riyadh, starting today until September 30. These destinations reportedly offer a range of experiences to tourists from beaches, forests and mountains to historic villages and bustling cities.
“The tourism sector resumes its activities with a renewed spirit and great hopes for moving forward at an accelerated pace, to achieve our aspirations in harmony with Saudi Vision 2030, which seeks to pursue economic diversification, attract investments, increase revenues and create job opportunities for citizens,” Al Khateeb added.
