Riyadh (TAN): Saudi Arabia’s government has taken several steps for the development of the country’s tourism industry and an increased involvement of women in the sector, a recent report has claimed, Arab News reported.
Published with the National Center for Tourism Human Resources Development, the report says 474 female students benefited from a programme called “Your Job, Your Scholarship” and that 9.631 women had taken part in a training provided under the country’s National Transformation Program 2020.

The government plans to send 1,200 more students abroad to study in various courses as part of the scholarship schemes apart from training 25,000 people under the National Transformation Program.
The media report, which was published a day after International Women’s Day, added that the government’s report claimed 205 female tour guides had attended workshops at 14 colleges across the kingdom where tourism and hospitality is taught. The plan is to train 1,400 guides by 2020.

The Saudi Tourism Information and Research Center, Arab News said, has claimed 80 female researchers now work in the country and that 988 Saudi women were now licensed to practice tourist activities across the kingdom.
A total of 3,961 women are now registered with Saudi Arabia’s National Program for the Development of Crafts and Handicrafts, it added.
