New Delhi (TAN): Anti-single-use-plastic crusader Abhimanyu Chakravorty says small steps taken by tourists could help control plastic pollution that is spiralling out of control.

New Delhi-based Chakravorty, who last year rode to five countries on his motorcycle to raise awareness on plastic pollution, said: “Tourists could do something as simple as saying no to a straw or carrying a cloth bag with them to the market.”

Speaking to TAN, he said people did not have to change their entire lives to shun single-use plastic. “Everyone should carry their own reusable water bottles (preferably with a filter) and also reusable cutlery,” he says, adding that if a large number of people understood how big the problem was and took conscious decisions not to add to the problem, it would make a considerable difference.

Chakravorty rode through Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia and Nepal not only to raise awareness about the plastic problem but also to inspire people to plog (picking up trash as you jog).
