Tanzania bagged the prize leaving behind its contenders in wildlife tourism, South Africa and Kenya, according to reports.

Tanzania High Commissioner to India, Baraka Luvanda, reportedly said in his acceptance speech that the award will make people aware of the offerings Tanzania has in terms of tourism.

“We believe that through this award and the Outlook Traveller Magazine’s, more people will be able to know about destination Tanzania and what it has to offer to a wide spectrum of clientele as one of Africa’s leading travel destination,” he was quoted by PML Daily as saying.

As per reports, Luvanda said Tanzania, instead of being carried away by the award, will work on marketing its tourism destinations and tapping on emerging markets.

“While we take this honour with highest esteem, we are (not) in any way complacent about this achievement. For us this award has a catalytic effect. As a country, we have resolved to continue to conserve nature for our flora and fauna without compromise and many for years to come. We will continue to inspire others to follow suit as the migration of wild animals does not observe boundaries,” he was quoted by IOL as saying.

Tanzania is an East African country famous for its massive wilderness areas. It is home to Serengeti National Park and Kilimanjaro National Park.
