(TAN): Turkey has announced a new initiative to ensure the safety of its tourist hotspots which will be introduced after the pandemic eases, reports said.

As per the move, which was announced by Turkey’s Culture and Tourism Minister Nuri Ersoy, the country will roll out a certification system for coronavirus-free tourist sites and facilities to boost the travel sector, as per reports.

“We have started the certification process to determine the coronavirus-free zones under a system. We will develop it stage by stage. First, we will develop an internationally accepted certification system,” Ersoy was quoted by Hurriyet Daily News as saying.

He added that the tourism ministry has already been coordinating with the health, transportation and agriculture ministries and relevant representatives to finalise the regulations for the system, reports said.

Ersoy reportedly said the ministry plans to involve nonprofits, and wrap up the certification process soon.

“We are planning to include all the NGOs in the commission and conclude the certification system swiftly in the first week of May,” he said.

He added that the ministry would start delivering certificates to travel-related businesses that have not only shown no contact with the virus but have also maintained the hygiene and safety measures that were laid down, according to reports.

At the same time, transportation personnel will need to get pandemic training after going through health checks, and temperature checks for visitors and employees are also likely to be introduced, as per reports.

The minister reportedly said tourists will be required to furnish health documents proving they are not infected with the coronavirus.

Ersoy reportedly said domestic tourism could resume in June.
