(TAN): UK has reduced the quarantine period for contacts of people with Covid-19 to 10 days from 14. This will also apply to anyone returning from high risk countries, reports said. Many believe this move will give the severely-hit tourism industry a much-needed push.

According to reports, the move comes as scientists now know that people are most infectious to others around the time they first develop symptoms. By day 10, only around 2% will be infectious.

Consequently, it is now believed a 10 day period of isolation is largely sufficient to avoid passing on the virus.
