Denver, US (TAN): The body of a missing hiker was recovered by an aerial rescue team from a steep, scree area of the United States’ Rocky Mountain National Park. The body is believed to be that of 37-year-old Aragorn Spaulding of Greeley, Colorado.

Spaulding was reported missing a couple of days ago, following which a search was organised by the Rocky Mountain National Park Search and Rescue Team. While his vehicle was located on the road near the Corral Creek Trailhead in the northwest part of the national park, the man could not be traced.

Larimer County Search and Rescue armed with SAR dog teams subsequently joined the operation, and ultimately a Colorado National Guard helicopter that was helping with aerial search, located Spaulding’s body below a large cliff band in a scree area above Mirror Lake.

The park’s rangers completed an on-scene investigation and arranged a helicopter to recover the body, which was flown to Harbison Meadows on the west side of the park before being transported to the Larimer County Coroner’s Office. The Coroner’s office has yet to release identification.

The cause of the man’s death is under investigation.

A 15-year-old boy from Colorado state’s Boulder was airlifted from the park last month after he fell 300 to 400 feet in the Loft area between Mount Meeker and Longs Peak, a steep terrain covered with snow, water and rock.

Rocky Mountain National Park, located in northern Colorado, spans the Continental Divide. Long Peak, which can be reached through the Keyhole Route, constitutes the park’s tallest mountain.
