(TAN): Virginia Beach, United States has launched an advertising campaign to draw tourists from the neighbouring towns so that they can drive to the coastal city for a quick summer getaway, reports said.
The administration reportedly took the step as they look to resume tourism amid the pandemic.
The Convention and Visitors Bureau of the southeastern Virgina city designed the new advertisement aimed at potential visitors from the mid-Atlantic region, as per reports. The campaign will reportedly be run in cities within driving distance from Virginia Beach, including Richmond in Virginia state, Philadelphia in Pennsylvania, Charlotte in North Carolina, Baltimore in Maryland state and Washington D.C.

Two videos were released as part of the campaign with the tagline “We’re Open”, on the same day the beaches of the city were allowed to reopen after staying shut because of COVID-19. However, visitors were advised to observe physical distancing and other guidelines while visiting the beaches.
In the videos, a voiceover asked people to “summer smarter” “this year” as “in good times and bad, our beaches have always been there for us”. The videos let people know that the beaches of Virginia Beach, which have helped them “relax and recharge”, “find peace among chaos” and “to escape and make memories”, are waiting for them to return. The commercials said the city will observe safety measures in regards to its beaches as the pandemic still remains in place.
“We are advertising that we are transitioning that we are ready for people to visit,” Virginia Beach Deputy City Manager Ron Williams was quoted by WHSV as saying.
“When they are ready and we start to see cases drop down a little, we’ll encourage their visiting as well,” he added.
