Japan adds 11 more countries including India, South Africa, Argentina to COVID-19 travel advisory

(TAN): Japan has raised its travel advisory as part of its measures against COVID-19 to include 11 more countries on its list, reports said.

The updated list reportedly contains countries such as Argentina, India, South Africa – Japan’s Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi advised residents against travelling to these countries.

The other countries Japan issued a travel advisory against comprise Afghanistan, Bangladesh, El Salvador, Ghana, Guinea, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan and Tajikistan, as per reports.

According to reports, the countries could soon be incorporated in a list of nations and regions depending on an entry ban for foreign visitors to Japan, following a discussion at an imminent National Security Council meeting.

Overseas travel to and from Japan has plunged nearly 99% after entry bans were put in place in the wake of the pandemic, reports said. The entry ban already covers 100 countries, including the United States, China, and all of Europe, as per reports.

Japan had reportedly introduced national emergency measures to contain the spread of the pandemic, which was later lifted from most parts of the country.

Japan’s Health Minister Katsunobu Kato reportedly said the country would start testing 10,000 people in the Japanese capital, Tokyo, Osaka and the northeastern province of Miyagi from early next month to better comprehend the spread of the virus.

The South East Asian country has so far reported 16,424 cases of infection, of which 777 people have died, data from Johns Hopkins University showed.
