(TAN): The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a travel advisory advising residents of New York, Connecticut and New Jersey to “refrain from non-essential domestic travel” for the next two weeks, reports said.

The CDC is a national public health institute of the United States, that comes under the Department of Health and Human Services. The federal agency is headquartered in Atlanta, in Georgia state.

The United States’ President Donald Trump tweeted the announcement. He said the decision came after consulting with the Governors of the three states, who will implement the plan in consultation with the federal government.

“On the recommendation of the White House CoronaVirus Task Force, and upon consultation with the Governors of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, I have asked the CDC to issue a strong Travel Advisory, to be administered by the Governors, in consultation with the Federal Government. A quarantine will not be necessary. Full details will be released by CDC tonight. Thank you!” the tweet said.

The CDC reportedly said the Governors of these three states will have “full discretion” to execute the advisory.

According to reports, the travel advisory, issued last weekend, exempted some industries including employees of critical industries that comprise trucking, public health professionals, financial services, and food supply.

President Trump said in his tweet that a quarantine will not be “necessary” although he had considered the option earlier, reports said.

“We’re thinking about certain things. Some people would like to see New York quarantined because it’s a hotspot. … We might not have to do it, but there’s a possibility that sometime today we’ll do a quarantine, short-term, two weeks on New York. Probably New Jersey, certain parts of Connecticut,” he was quoted by CNN as saying.

According to data from John Hopkins University, New York City alone reported over 38,000 cases along with 914 deaths. The United States reported the highest number of cases in the world with 163,429 cases.
