(TAN): United Airlines has announced nonstop flights between San Francisco and Bengaluru, or Bangalore, starting Spring 2021. This will be the first ever flight between the two cities. The airline will also start a New Delhi-Chicago route. 

In a statement, United Airlines said Chicago has the second highest population of Indian-Americans in the US, and customers from more than 130 US cities can connect on United through O’Hare International Airport. Service from San Francisco to Bangalore connects two international technology hubs, adding to United’s west coast service to India, which also includes San Francisco to New Delhi.

The San Francisco to Bangalore flight will be SFO’s longest, at 17.5 hours and 8,701 miles (14,002.3 km), longer than the San Francisco-Singapore one at 8,466 miles, a report said.

Apart from these, the airline also announced further global expansion plans with new nonstop service to Africa and Hawaii. This includes three new destinations in Africa and further expansion of its services to Hawaii. A new nonstop route to Tel Aviv, Israel will also be introduced.

Among the three destinations to Africa, Newark/New York–Johannesburg nonstop will start operating from Spring 2021. Two more flights to Accra, Ghana and Lagos, Nigeria from Washington, DC, will also be added later in 2021.

Beginning September 10, United will start all new three-times-weekly nonstop service between Chicago and Tel Aviv. In addition to Chicago, United currently operates nonstop service between Tel Aviv and its hubs in Newark/New York and San Francisco and will resume service between Washington and Tel Aviv in October. 

Expanding its network in Hawaii, In the summer of 2021, the airline will fly nonstops four times a week in Chicago–Kona and Newark/New York–Maui route. This will cut short the travel time between Hawaiian Islands and the Midwest and US East Coast. United’s new service between Chicago and Kona will operate with Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft and service between New York/Newark and Maui will operate with Boeing 767-300ER aircraft.

All the newly announced international routes are subject to government approval. 
“Now is the right time to take a bold step in evolving our global network to help our customers reconnect with friends, family and colleagues around the world,” said Patrick Quayle, United’s vice president of International Network and Alliances. “These new nonstop routes provide shorter travel times and convenient one-stop connections from across the United States.”

United Airlines is taking all necessary safety measures to contain the spread of Covid-19.
