Velana airport in Male, Maldives sees increase in passenger traffic

Tourists are returning to Maldives with the opening of its borders.

(TAN): Velana International Airport in Male has reported significant increase in passenger traffic until the end of August since the border opened from July 15. 

Air traffic movements in international travel increased to 432 in August from 196 in July. In domestic travel, numbers increased to 326 in August from 191 the previous month, a government statement said.

International arrivals during the period include 2,890 in July and 11,186 in August. This is an increase of 287% or 8,296 arrivals. However, the increase in local arrivals was lower — 1,954 in July and 3,282 in August.

The departures also show a positive trend, with 4,106 international departures in July and 14,045 in August. Local departures stood at 2,555 during July and 3,438 during the month of August.
