(TAN): Egypt will reopen hotels for domestic tourists although they will be required to adhere to a host of health measures laid down in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, reports said.
To resume operations, hotels will only be able to function at 25% capacity until the end of this month, as per reports. They must also have a clinic with a resident doctor, install disinfection equipment and screen temperatures at regular intervals, reports said.
According to reports, other measures that must be included comprise giving employees rapid COVID-19 tests while entering resorts and making guests pre-register online. A hotel floor or small building must reportedly be allocated as a quarantine area for positive or suspected cases.
Further, hotel restaurants will only be able to serve pre-set menus, and put wider spaces between tables, while open buffets and shisha will still be prohibited, reports said. Resorts will not be allowed to organise any weddings, parties or entertainment programmes, as per reports.
From June 1, hotels will be able to scale up operations to a maximum 50% capacity, reports said.
The North African nation had reportedly suspended international passenger flights, shut down hotels and restaurants and put a nighttime curfew in place to slow the spread of the virus. The country eased these lockdown restrictions for the month of Ramadan – Egypt permitted more businesses to reopen and made the night curfew shorter, reports said.
As per reports, Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly has said the country would start getting back to normalcy following Ramadan.
Data from Johns Hopkins University showed Egypt has reported 7,201 cases of infection including 452 deaths.
