Dubai (TAN): Emirates will introduce its shortest A380 flight this summer. The United Arab Emirates-based carrier will use the world’s largest commercial aircraft to fly to Oman’s capital Muscat twice daily from Dubai starting July 1.

The route, 340 kilometres each way, will take about an hour and fifteen minutes to cover.

Emirates’ Divisional Senior Vice President Commercial Operations Centre, Sheikh Majid Al Mualla, said: “The introduction of the A380 services to Muscat means more of our customers will have the opportunity to experience our industry-leading products onboard, and will also enhance choice and travel preferences as they plan their journeys.”

“Oman is an important destination for Emirates, and we will continue to look at ways to grow our operations in the market to best serve our customers. We thank Muscat International Airport and the government authorities for their support in making the A380 double daily operations happen,” he added.

The deployment of the A380 is expected to provide both business and leisure travellers from Muscat with more connection opportunities to business hubs and vacation destinations across the globe.

“From its side, Muscat International Airport has demonstrated its readiness for this extraordinary event, and the arrival of these scheduled flights for this giant aircraft is a gain to prove the large airport capacity to accommodate an aircraft of this size,” said Chief Executive Officer of Oman Airports, Sheikh Aimen bin Ahmed Al Hosni.

The airline has operated flights to Oman since 1993, and currently flies thrice daily between Dubai and Muscat using its Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. Last year, Emirates had, for the first time, deployed a scheduled one-off A380 service to celebrate its 25 years of operations to Oman.

The double-decker aircraft to Muscat will feature a three-class configuration, with 429 seats in economy class on the lower deck, and 76 flat-bed seats in business class and 14 first class private suites on the upper deck.

According to the schedule, the morning flight EK 862 will leave Dubai at 0825 hours, reaching Muscat at 0940 hours, while the return flight EK 863 will depart Muscat at 1115 hours, and land in Dubai at 1225hrs.

The next flight EK 864 will take off from Dubai at 1610 hours, to arrive in Muscat at 1725 hours. The return flight EK 865 will leave Muscat at 1905 hours, reaching Dubai at 2015 hours.
