Funds boost for indigenous tourism operators in Western Australia

Perth (TAN): The chairs of Tourism Western Australia and Western Australian Indigenous Tourism Operators Council (WAITOC), Nathan Harding and Doc Reynolds, have signed a new AUD 3.6 million (USD 2.47 million) four-year agreement that provides support for WAITOC’s governance, marketing and business support activities, Tourism WA official website says. 

The Western Australian Indigenous Tourism Operators Council (WAITOC), incorporated in 2002, is the peak representative body for Aboriginal tourism businesses in WA and is the only state-based Aboriginal tourism body providing Aboriginal-to-Aboriginal outcomes in Australia.

With this new funding agreement in place, the next four years will see the partnership between WAITOC and Tourism WA strengthen and some new initiatives delivered.

Aboriginal tourism is a fundamental part of the Western Australia government’s vision for a robust and resilient tourism industry that creates local jobs and economic wealth across urban and regional communities.

Currently contributing 339 full time employee jobs and $43.8 million in economic impact, the dividends of Aboriginal tourism go beyond the financial and brand positioning into transformational social and cultural outcomes.
