Kochi (TAN): Kerala Tourism is promoting Kodikuthimala in the northern part of the state as a weekend destination.
Loved by trekkers and nature-enthusiasts, the site is known as the mini Ooty of Malappuram, says a newsletter of the tourism body of the coastal state in south India. Ooty is a popular hill station in Kerala’s neighbouring Tamil Nadu state.
“It is believed that the British hoisted (kuthi) their flag (kodi) on this hill (mala), during a survey, and thus the place came to be known as Kodikuthimala (literally, the hill where a flag was hoisted),” it says.

Situated 2,200 feet above sea level, the place offers spectacular views. A watch-tower is also present for visitors.
“You may be enveloped by a blanket of mist or baptized by a light drizzle, you may be caressed by happy sunshine or pricked by a bit of chill. At times when the mist becomes palpably thick, the hilltop can get quite spooky too,” it adds.
Situated 10km away from Perinthalmanna, the nearest airport is Calicut International Airport (55km away). Tirur, the nearest major railway station to Kodikuthimala, is around 52km away.
