Catch some spectacular sound and light shows in Normandy this summer

Rouen cathedral

Rouen (TAN): Less than a couple of hours from Paris, Normandy is a beautiful region sitting next to the English Channel and dotted with magnificent old buildings.

With the late sun sets and comfortable temperatures of summer, now is the perfect time to enjoy an outdoor sound and light show. Here’s what’s on at the moment.

Rouen

Every summer, hundreds of thousands of spectators line the square in front of Rouen cathedral to watch the facade come to life. This season, your eyes are sure to light up when you see the spectacular visuals narrating the Norman Viking adventures. The second show features the vessels that travelled the seas in search of the new world.

The free show is on from June 1 to September 15 at nightfall.

Bayeux

The light show here is displayed not only on the cathedral but also on the magnificent tree trunk at the centre of the square. In an array of vibrant colours, ten stories celebrating France’s journey to freedom and liberty are portrayed. #mustsee

The show takes place on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at nightfall, from July 16 to August 31, 2019. It is free as well.

Sées

Sées Cathedral in the south of Normandy will also run its annual Musilumières sound and light show on weekends throughout the summer, telling the tale of the cathedral itself. Get ready to travel back in time to 1209 for a 45-minute spectacular!

The show runs on Friday and Saturday evenings in July, August and September. This is not free though. The entry fee is between EUR 5 and EUR 14.

The Mont Saint Michel

Rediscover Normandy’s most famous landmark through a new sound & light show named The Archangel. Enter the Abbey and watch the historic walls, ceiling and floor come to life.

The show is on from July 6 till August 31. The entry fee is between EUR 12 and EUR 15.
