Taiwan promotes itself as LGBT-friendly travel destination

Taipei (TAN): Taiwan is promoting itself as a LGBT-friendly travel destination in order to attract tourists.

This year, an annual food festival organised in Taiwan by LA Times, had another selling point: gay pride, Taiwan News reported.

The country’s tourism bureau has collaborated with the Elite Voyages travel agency, to launch an LGBT-themed travel packages to Taiwan. The goal of the campaign is to attract American citizens to take part in the 2019 gay pride festival to take place in Taipei on October 26, CNA reported.

According to the report in Taiwan News, Taiwan in May became the first country in the region to recognise same-sex marriage. The island also hosts Asia’s biggest gay parade in October.
