(TAN): Carnival Cruise Line has announced that Carnival Fantasy and Carnival Inspiration would be leaving the fleet. Carnival Fantasy arrived at a Turkish shipyard for recycling, ending a 30-year run as one of the most successful ships in cruising.

Carnival Fantasy had introduced many firsts for the company, from a soaring seven-deck-high atrium and a massive navigational bridge to a luxurious spa, acres of open deck space and unique interiors.

Carnival Inspiration was the sixth of eight ships in the Fantasy-class and she was also a pioneer, making her debut on the West Coast in 1996 and for the last nine years operating a highly popular short cruise programme from Long Beach.

“The first time I boarded Fantasy, I had never seen such an impressive atrium – and all the blinking lights along the promenade. I was in awe!  I’ll always remember the formal nights in the Cats Lounge, then heading next door in the Electricity Discotheque. Inspiration was equally impressive – loved the seven-day sailings from San Juan and stopping in Barbados.  That was the first time I saw Brett Allan’s famous bird show,” Marc Campagnone, the current business development manager, former retail associate on Fantasy, said.

The Fantasy class lives on with Carnival Sensation, Carnival Elation, Carnival Paradise and Carnival Ecstasy. Carnival Imagination and Carnival Fascination are currently undergoing long-term lay-up.
