Tunisia expects nine million people to visit in 2019.

Tunis, Tunisia (TAN): Tourism revenue in Tunisia jumped 44% YoY on the year ending August 10, 2019 to TND 3.16 billion (USD 1.1 billion), media reports citing a government statement said.

The north African country welcomed 8.3 million tourists last year. Tourism accounts for 8% of Tunisia’s GDP.

The government statement quoting tourism minister Reneé Trabelsi said nine million people were expected to visit the country in 2019, especially from traditional markets such as UK, France and Germany.

Major tourism operators started returning to Tunisia last year after a break owing to the 2015 terrorist attacks on tourists that killed 60 people in total. Islamic State had claimed responsibility for the attacks.
