Denver, US (TAN): If your last name is ‘Green’, you will be able to fly for free on United States-based carrier Frontier Airlines on August 13. The giveaway is part of the airline’s ‘Green Week’ effort which started on August 7, aimed at increasing fuel efficiency and encouraging others to live and fly more sustainably.

Frontier operated what it called ‘America’s Greenest Flight’ from Denver, Colorado to ‘GREEN-ville, S.C.’ using an Airbus A320neo, ‘one of the most fuel-efficient aircraft in the world’.

The flight used green products such as bamboo stir sticks, compostable cups and napkins made from recycled materials, gave green-inspired gifts to passengers onboard, and pledged to plant enough trees to offset the flight’s carbon footprint.

“Our fleet’s fuel efficiency is unmatched by other U.S. airlines and allows Frontier to deliver not only the lowest fares but the most sustainable approach to flying. We are proud to serve communities across the U.S. and understand the importance of being good stewards of the environment,” President and Chief Executive Officer, Frontier Airlines, Barry Biffle said.

“We’re focused on lessening Frontier’s impact on the environment and continually search for innovative solutions and technology to achieve that,” he added.

The airline, which kicked off its sustainable journey in 2013, operates the largest A320neo fleet in the country, the company said. The A320neo delivers more fuel-efficiency and noise reduction in comparison to the earlier aircraft used by the carrier. Together with the use of A320neo and other sustainable measures including seating configuration, weight-saving strategies and baggage policies, Frontier was able to save 39% fuel vis-à-vis other US airlines in 2018.
