(TAN): Finnair is set to launch a revamped version of its loyalty programme, Finnair Plus, in early 2024. The Finnish airline aims to introduce Avios as its new loyalty currency, a move that is expected to bring several new benefits to its loyal customers.

In collaboration with IAG Loyalty, the adoption of Avios is anticipated to open doors to a broader range of opportunities for both existing and new Finnair Plus members. The programme’s transition to a spend-based platform is a noteworthy highlight. This shift will enable customers to reap rewards in direct correlation with their expenditures, akin to prevalent retail loyalty programmes.

And as an extra incentive to join the Finnair Plus programme, its members will now also receive complimentary internet access for messaging as a new benefit on Finnair’s short-haul European flights operated with the narrow-body Airbus fleet, regardless of their tier status.

A distinct enticement for individuals considering joining the Finnair Plus programme is the introduction of complimentary internet access for messaging during short-haul European flights operated with the narrow-body Airbus fleet, regardless of tier status. Further enhancing the passenger experience, Finnair has announced plans to invest in more spacious lounge facilities at Helsinki Airport. The new lounge premises, set to debut in 2024, will include a dedicated section for top-tier members, demonstrating the airline’s commitment to its most valued customers.

Ole Orvér, Finnair’s chief commercial officer, said, “The move to a spend-based programme rewards customers directly for their spend, just like many retail loyalty programmes do. These moves allow us to leverage the full potential of our loyalty programme and make it attractive to a wider audience.”

Adam Daniels, CEO of IAG Loyalty, expressed his excitement about Finnair’s embrace of Avios, highlighting its global significance and value for members worldwide. The adoption of Avios aligns Finnair with an extensive network of airline partners, including British Airways, Iberia, Aer Lingus, Vueling, and Qatar Airways.

The enhanced Finnair Plus programme will not only provide Avios conversion for existing award points but also feature an expanded number of award seats, a particularly popular benefit among members. Finnair has committed to guaranteeing at least four award seats on European flights and eight on long-haul flights.

Starting in 2024, Finnair Plus members will have the opportunity to accumulate and use Avios across partner airlines, including when shopping online with leading brands. Avios is a well-recognized loyalty currency utilized by Finnair’s oneworld partners’ programmes, such as British Airways Executive Club, Qatar Airways Privilege Club, and Iberia Plus.
