Mumbai (TAN): The Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) will introduce an effort to cut down overall water intensity by five per cent within the next two years across all its properties.
Australia-based research group specialising in sustainable tourism and research, will carry out a monthly audit to keep a tab on IHCL’s sustainability practices and growth.

“Our sustainability goals have evolved with the changing world that we live in. At IHCL, it is our constant endeavour to grow responsibly and contribute to preserving the environment in a meaningful way. This year’s goal is in line with our commitment to working towards optimizing water and energy consumption,” Executive Vice President and Global Head – Human Resources, IHCL, P.V. Murthy said.
IHCL has also initiated a Water SMART contest, which requires participating hotels to run a water intensity reduction project for three months. The winning model will thereafter be implemented across all hotels as a best practice.

Other green initiatives by IHCL include elimination of two million plastic straws from its environment within a year, increasing the renewable energy quotient from 7 per cent to 23 per cent over the last three years, and three of its hotels switching to their own in-house bottling plants from PET bottles.
