Jakarta (TAN): A flight alert notice has been issued in the area after Mount Tangkuban Parahu, an active volcano in Bandung, West Java, erupted on Friday afternoon.
The orange Volcano Observatory Notice for Aviation (VONA) alert issued by the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry’s Geological Agency indicates that volcanic ash particles are present 1,000 feet above the crater.

“This level (of situation) may risk the flights. The VONA alert also shows that volcanic ash clouds are heading to south and north-east directions,” Indonesian National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) spokesman Agus Wibowo said in a statement.
Videos on social media show large areas covered in volcanic ash and people fleeing as the the crater spews thick grey smoke.
The authorities have asked people to stay away from the volcano, a popular tourist spot.

The latest statement from BNPB says the volcano activity has decreased and Mount Tangkuban Parahu was only spewing gas and moisture now.
