US: Wild horse on Maryland beach kicks tourist in the crotch when he tries to pet it

Annapolis, US (TAN): A tourist in a swimsuit was kicked in the crotch by a wild horse on a Assateague island beach after he tried to pet it, ignoring warnings by locals to stay away from the animals.

Assateague island is located off the coast of Maryland, US.

In a video that is circulating on social media, the man is seen trying to pet the horse from behind and the animals kicks him with its left hind leg. The man falls to the ground. It is not clear how serious his injury is.

It is unclear how the horses ended up on the island, but a report in The Mirror cites local folklore saying they landed there after surviving a shipwreck more than 300 years ago.

There are around 300 horses on the island and the authorities classify them as wild animals and ask people to stay away from them. 

A beach lifeguard had been kicked twice by a horse last year and received serious injuries, a Foxnews report said.
