London (TAN): American hotel giant Marriott International has completed a multi-million-dollar renovation of JW Marriott Grosvenor House London in the United Kingdom.
The full-scale renovation, designed by United States-based hospitality design firm Hirsch Bedner Associates and multi-national interior design company GA Design, has imparted a contemporary style to the elegance of the Duke of Gloucester’s erstwhile home.

Global Brand Leader of JW Marriott Mitzi Gaskins said: “The reintroduction of the iconic JW Marriott Grosvenor House London signifies an exciting milestone as the property celebrates its ninetieth anniversary this year.”

Grosvenor House, originally designed by architects L. Rome Guthrie and Sir Edwin Lutyens, opened to the public in 1929. Located on Park Lane near Hyde Park, the property hosted royalty, international dignitaries and celebrities, and opulent events including the Royal Caledonian Ball, The Russian Debutante Ball and the British Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards.
“Throughout the 90 years of its legacy, JW Marriott Grosvenor House London has played a role, whether large or small, in the history of this well-beloved city. This year, following significant transformations, our truly iconic hotel begins an exciting new chapter,” said Stuart Bowery, General Manager, JW Marriott Grosvenor House London.

Hyde Park played a significant role in the transformation of the iconic hotel. While the ground floor has been reimagined in order to match the views of the park, custom-made carpets and butterfly wall art have been designed to lend a vibrancy to the space. ‘A delicate foliage pattern gently winds through the hallways’ and the guestrooms were inspired by ‘autumn in Hyde Park with rich golden leaves layered over the soft grey carpet’ to exude warmth.
Floor-to-ceiling glass has been introduced in the lobby fireplace, while large personalised art pieces narrating the saga of the ‘interconnectedness of travel between London, New York and Paris in the early years of the twentieth century’ adorn the hotel.
So far culinary options are concerned, Grosvenor House offers plenty. The Park Room, with the atmosphere of a stately English home, specialises in afternoon tea along with live piano everyday.

Then there are JW Steakhouse, Corrigan’s Mayfair rustling up quintessential British and Irish dishes, and Ruya London with Anatolian food on the menu. Bars include the Bourbon Bar, and the Red Bar.
The property’s Great Room, which can now accommodate up to 2,000 guests at one go, once acted as the ice-skating rink for the British royal family. The Ballroom, the Court Suite, and 86 Park Lane also grace the hotel known for its spacious event spaces.
