Irish tourist caught carving initials on Colosseum

(TAN): A 32-year-old Irish tourist has been caught carving his initials on the Colosseum. Security staff allegedly caught the man using a sharp object to carve his initials on the almost 2,000-year-old structure, reports said.

Security staff of the Colosseum Archaeological Park reportedly caught the tourist scratching his name into the stone on a pillar on the first level of the Flavian Amphitheater. They detained the man and immediately called the police pressed charges of aggravated damage to assets of historical and cultural importance.

The identity of the tourist has not been disclosed.

This is the second incident in recent days involving tourists damaging the structure, which is among the most-recognized tourist destinations in the world. According to Wanted in Rome, a Polish tourist was recently found flying a drone near the Colosseum when it crashed, despite having been told that the area is a no-fly zone.
