Tourist footfall climbs by 15% in Tanzania

Zanzibar in among Tanzania’s biggest draws.

Dar es Salaam (TAN): Tanzania saw a 15 per cent increase in the number of visitors to the country during 2018 as compared to the previous year, a government official said.

“The rise in tourist arrivals is largely explained by the ongoing extensive promotional efforts coupled with beautiful tourist attractions in the country,” Times of Oman quoted he Adolf Mkenda, permanent secretary at the tourism ministry as saying.

The number was up from 1.3 million in 2017 to 1.5 million the following year and the tourism industry generated USD 2.4 billion in 2018, an increase from USD 2.3 billion in 2017. 

US, Kenya and the UK are Tanzania’s top inbound tourism markets.

Among Tanzania’s top tourist draws are Mount Kilimanjaro, Serengeti National Park and Zanzibar.
