London (TAN): United Kingdom-based light rail tram Sheffield Supertram will offer complimentary travel to competitors of the Invictus United Kingdom Trials to be held in Sheffield between July 22 and 26.

The Invictus Games is an international adaptive multi-sport event in which wounded veterans participate in categories such as wheelchair basketball and indoor rowing, among others.

The Trials, part of the selection process for those qualifying for the Invictus Games The Hague 2020, will be organised by Invictus UK, a collaboration among British charities for veterans Help for Heroes, The Royal British Legion, and the Ministry of Defence.

The tram company will provide free transport to participants of the Trials, along with their families and the event employees when they show their tram-endorsed accreditation pass.

“We are delighted to be able to offer free transport to support the Trials and to show our appreciation and gratitude for the work and sacrifices of our Armed Forces and veterans. It is great to have the opportunity to give something back to those who have already given so much,” said Managing Director at Supertram, Tim Bilby.

The Trials will be hosted at four locations across Sheffield – the English Institute of Sport Sheffield, Ponds Forge International Sports Centre, Sheffield Hallam University Athletics Track and a closed cycle circuit around the City, many of which are connected by the Supertram network.

“We are delighted with Supertram’s generous provision of free transport for our Invictus UK Trials’ competitors, their families and event staff during the Invictus UK Trials week, later this month,” Sports Recovery Manager at Help for Heroes and Event Manager for the Invictus UK Trials, Hannah Lawton, said.

“During this incredible week of sport, which will be a life-changing experience for so many wounded, injured and sick veterans and service personnel and their friends and family, Supertram’s accessible and well-placed network will enable all those involved to travel across the City cost and trouble-free,” she added.
