Qatar Airways to become the first Middle Eastern carrier to fly to Botswana capital

Doha (AN): Qatar Airways will fly to Botswana’s capital Gaborone three times per week starting October 27.

While it will be the first time for a Middle Eastern carrier to operate to the Botswanan capital, the new service to Gaborone will also mark Qatar’s first destination in the country.

“We are excited to be launching three-weekly flights to Gaborone, another highly sought-after destination in Africa,” Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, Akbar Al Baker, said.

“Qatar Airways is committed to growing our presence in Africa and adding to the 22 destinations in 15 countries we already offer. Our new service to the enchanting city of Gaborone will enable us to provide a seamless journey to and from Botswana, for passengers connecting from our extensive network of more than 160 destinations worldwide,” he added.

The airline will deploy its Airbus A350-900 aircraft, with 36 business class and 247 economy class seats, to serve the route.

Gaborone, the largest city in the Southern African country Botswana, is well-known for its wildlife, and nature and game reserves. It is a popular destination for adventure seekers from all parts of the world.

According to the schedule, flight QR1377 will depart Doha on Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 0655 hours, reaching Johannesburg in South Africa at 1450 hours. The same flight will then take off from Johannesburg at 1555 hours, arriving Gaborone at 1650 hours.

The return flight QR1378 will leave Gaborone at 1835 hours, and reach Johannesburg at 1930 hours. It will then depart Johannesburg at 2040 hours and land in Doha at 0635 hours the next day.
