Abu Dhabi (TAN): Etihad Airways has recently deployed larger aircraft to accommodate growing demand on three crucial routes in Asia. While the airline’s next-generation Boeing 787 Dreamliners will serve the route between here and Chinese cities Shanghai and Chengdu, the carrier has upgraded service to Korean city Seoul with Airbus A380 ‘super jumbo’ aircraft.

Chief Commercial Officer of Etihad Airways Robin Kamark said Asia-Pacific is the world’s fastest growing air transport region, and China the fastest-growing individual market.

He added: “As we continue to modernise our aircraft fleet, and as we work with tourism partners to increase visitor numbers to Abu Dhabi, we are deploying newer, larger planes to key markets throughout our network.”

South Korean capital Seoul, with a population of nearly 10 million, is being served by Etihad’s 494-seat Airbus A380, which has 47 per cent higher capacity compared to the earlier Boeing 787-10 aircraft.

Etihad stepped up services to Shanghai, China’s largest city, with Boeing 787-10 jets with a seating capacity of 336 passengers. The city, that has a population of over 24 million, was earlier served by Boeing 787-9 aircraft. The airline deployed its Boeing 787s to operate daily flights to South-central China’s Chengdu, a city of 7.4 million people. The 787s, with 299 seats, have 14 per cent more seats than previously used 262-seat Airbus A330-200 aircraft.
